Friends of Wasioja recieves grant

Friends of Wasioja Costuming Committee was recently the recipient of a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, Inc. (SEMAC).  SEMAC is one of the eleven regional arts councils in Minnesota

  The Grant includes:

Two Theatre Productions.

“Our American Cousin” to be preformed at the Kasson High School on April 30th. (the weekend of the upcoming Mantorville Muster).  “Our American Cousin” was the production that was to be preformed at the Ford Theatre on the night President Lincoln was shot.  Friends of Wasioja Costuming Committee will help with the costuming.
“A Mothers Story”, a one act play written by local author and producer, Sandra Miller.  It is yet to be determined just when and where the production will be held.  Perhaps it may show up at one of your local festivals.
Costume Seminar
*We are pleased to announce that Marci Ukura a costume seamstress for 54 years, living in Goodhue, will present a seminar, “Clothing from the Skin Out of a Civil War Lady”.   The seminar is scheduled for the afternoon of May 8th at the Mantorville Opera House.
1860’s Dancing
* A series of Maypole Dancing lessons, designed for families, will be held in the summer of 2010. 
*Avin Hoennecker Sherman, a Regional Dance instructor, will teach some of the lost art of 1800’s dance.  
*Local craftsmen will build a 16 foot May Pole.
